Uncover Secret Sites in Cambodia

Visit an iconic monument — the amazing UNESCO-protected Angkor temple complex — and other sacred temples & sites on 2 full-day tours.

About Your Trip

Uncover the secrets of the ancient capital cities of Cambodia’s Khmer Empire on this fascinating DreamTrip to Siem Reap — gateway to a world of wonder. You’ll have a full day to experience the planet’s largest religious structure, Angkor Wat. Designed as a stone replica of the cosmos, this 12th-century architectural masterpiece offers a glimpse into the royal history of the Khmer kings. After lunch, it’s off to Angkor Thom, an immense walled city built for King Jayavarman VII. You’ll be amazed at the relief sculptures of the Terrace of the Elephants as you make your way to Bayon, a pyramid temple and an excellent example of Khmer-inspired architecture.

Your next excursion stops first at Beng Mealea temple, a sandstone ruin hidden deep in a lush jungle. Along the way, marvel at the Cambodian countryside of scenic villages and rice fields. Continue to Koh Ker, a temple complex in the remote countryside — away from the crowds, you can take your time and stroll the ruins of this lost city.

What we love:
• The 154-square-mile (400-square-kilometer) Angkor temple complex is the largest archaeological site in Siem Reap. It is designated a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its immense cultural, religious and symbolic significance.
• Mesmerizing Angkor Wat is decorated with more than 3,000 carved apsaras (heavenly nymphs), each with a unique look.
• While at Koh Ker, take a moment to admire pyramid-style temple Prasat Thom built in the 10th century.

Destination

Siem Reap stands in the shadow of the UNESCO-protected Angkor temple complex, home to Angkor Wat and a plethora of elaborate ruins. This culturally important and highly popular landmark comprises the remains of the ancient Khmer Empire, including the “lost city” of Mahendraparvata, which was uncovered in 2012. Recent archaeological findings have revealed additional medieval cities, ranging from 900–1,400 years old, making Mahendraparvata even larger than originally projected, perhaps even rivaling the present-day Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.

Bicycles are a popular mode of transportation around bustling Siem Reap. White Bicycles, a local charity, rents bikes to travelers who want to explore the city. You can also walk among French colonial-style shops and eateries, or take a tuk-tuk rickshaw to one of the floating villages in this welcoming city on Tonle Sap, the “Great Lake.”
